PDP Expels Lawmaker Ikenga Ugochinyere

By Oyinkansayo Wole-Bodunde.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken drastic action against one of its members, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, by expelling him from the party.

This decision was made due to allegations of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.

Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State, received a letter dated December 5, 2024, informing him of the expulsion. The letter, signed by Ideato LGA Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh, stated that the expulsion was effective immediately.

The expulsion follows a disciplinary committee report dated November 27, 2024, which investigated allegations against Ugochinyere. The committee found him guilty of violating the party’s constitution, including failing to attend meetings and participate in party activities, engaging in unauthorized publicity of internal party disputes, establishing parallel party structures, and making derogatory public statements against the party and its leaders.

The letter partly read, “Upon receipt of the report, the LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North met on the 5th December, 2024, and unanimously adopted the report of the disciplinary committee. In light of this, Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the party (PDP) with immediate effect and ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA.”

Ugochinyere’s expulsion is a significant move by the PDP to maintain discipline and unity within the party. The party emphasized that Ugochinyere’s actions not only contravened its constitution but also undermined its unity and public image.
